Brown Brothers

Cooked and sliced meats from Kirkconnel, where the group began its modern era in 1993.

Brown Brothers is the original business in what is now Browns Food Group. It began as the Brown family's butcher's shop in Biggar in 1885, and moved to a new factory in Dumfriesshire in 1993.

Today it specialises in quality cooked and sliced meats: whole muscle joints (including QMS-approved meats), added-value slicing to 5mm or 10mm, shredded and diced meats such as pulled pork, shredded chicken and shredded beef, and slicing logs made to customers' specifications.

The site grew in phases from 35,000 sq ft (1996) to 150,000 sq ft (2014), with laser slicing lines, high-speed slicers and thermoforming. An extension of just under 5,000 m² was opened by the Princess Royal in March 2024.
