Our journey to net zero
We're working with government bodies and advisers to cut our carbon footprint, starting with the emissions we control directly (Scope 1) and the energy we buy (Scope 2).
CO2 refrigeration
The new low-risk area is cooled entirely by CO2, and waste heat from blast chilling heats water to 60°C.
Solar power
Solar panels on the new roof at Kirkconnel. The site is surrounded by wind farms, and we're exploring a supply or our own turbine.
Heat recovery
A modified economiser on our replacement boiler preheats water with waste heat, and combined heat and power (CHP) heat recovery has cut gas use at Hall's of Scotland.
Waste to energy
All food and effluent waste goes to anaerobic digestion.
LED everywhere
We're replacing all office and factory lighting with LEDs.
Cleaner transport
Efficient trucks, electric and hybrid cars, and route planning to cut road miles.
